We just had our 3rd anniversary. At first, marriage didn’t feel that different since we’d been together 6 years and lived together for 4. However, we soon realized that it is different in small but powerful ways. I know I always have a cheerleader in my corner (and he has the same from me). Also, when we do get in fights, there’s more weight to resolving them. We’re married – we can’t just bow out if one of us gets pissed. We committed to solving problems together, and it forces us to sit down and figure it out.
My favorite piece of advice comes from our pre-marital counselor (speaking of, doing pre-marital counseling was great!): when arguments happen, don’t fight each other, but instead, look at the problem together and solve it as a team.

Having a nice dose of humility and swallowing our pride now and then certainly helps, too 😉
